Nature needs us now, more than ever !
Well said William Hague, we couldn’t agree more! These were the words of Hague in response to the government's plan to scrap the Environmental Land Management (ELM) scheme – crucial environmental laws protecting the British countryside. We, at Nuisance, certainly back Hague’s sentiment.
In September, the new government announced plans to introduce at least 38 ‘Investment Zones’ in England which could trash planning rules – meaning housing and commercial developments could be incentivized to damage nature with little or no restriction. Just when 150 billion tones of ice are melting in Antarctica each year, is this a good idea? We think not.
The government's desire to build on protected areas of the British countryside is a worrying prospect; damaging habitats, ruining ecosystems and reducing land used to absorb carbon. Professor Alastair Driver, Director of Rewilding Britain, has suggested that ‘the ELM has the potential to be the most important environmental policy for England in a generation. It could help restore damaged habitats while helping rare species from dormice to wading birds to nightingales.’ So, let’s not let this slip!
In our support of Rewilding Britain, we want to protect our green spaces. We want to raise awareness around such issues and encourage action against these government proposals.
Both Rewilding Britain and Nuisance Drinks are imploring our supporters to fight for nature and stand up to the government. If you are able to contact your MPs in opposition to these plans, we, your grandkids, and the planet, will be forever grateful!
We hope that our drinks can be a celebration of the good that stems from nature. A celebration of the British countryside. And a celebration of the planet. Please click here to find a press release on the matter from Rewilding Britain.
